I’ve had my dishwasher for donkey’s years. I try to give it TLC from time to time, but between you and I, my heart’s not in it. So many appliances, so little time – the whole house appears to be run with, by and for them. I tend to take them for granted I fear, and when – only once – the dishwasher broke down – I was in no way ready for it! A dishwasher repair was not on my “to do” list!
Here’s what I should have done, but didn’t.: I should have checked that I had selected a short cycle which wasn’t the right one for the amount of dishes I had inside. Was the water running at the right temperature? Could I find out how to check the internal filters, the sprayer arms, inlet and drain valves? I should have offered it support by clearing the filters and removing bits of food, hair and wrappers that seem to have found their way inside. This debris can clog the internal filters, although in some more modern dishwashers there is a self-cleaning programme. If the filters are blocked it’s for sure that your dishes will remain dirty.
My dishwasher began to make the most scary, loud banging noises. I really thought it was the end. I was told that the problem was the motor bearings because of the occasional squeak. Apparently the bearing wore out because the seal round the motor had been ruptured and water had sprayed onto it.
This was, though, all fixable thanks to a top manufacturer engineer who I found on the internet. He was part of a company that offered a “fix or no fee” service and the repair was guaranteed. All has thankfully been quiet on the dishwasher front for some time now.
